Our mission is to make the world healthier and happier through the super power of calm.
At Calm Life we aim to explore mindfulness themes from different perspectives. We’ll be offering inspiring stories and practical insights. Our goal is to provide additional support as you embark on a path to bring mindfulness and meditation into your life, whether you’re a newcomer to meditation or a longtime Calm user.
We’ll be sharing stories, insights, tips and tools that focus on themes such as reducing anxiety, moving through hardships, getting better sleep, deepening self-compassion, and improving relationships.

There are lots of benefits to Meditation, such as decreasing anxiety, worry and stress.
It enhances self-awareness, self-acceptance and patience. And it strengthens our resilience amidst uncertainty and adversity. Who wouldn’t benefit from a little bit of that?
Calm is all about mindfulness, the practice of paying attention to our thoughts, emotions and experiences without judgement.
When we’re able to maintain moment-to-moment awareness, we can make the choices that best serve us in life. If you’re like us, you were drawn to mindfulness and meditation to live a happier, more peaceful, authentic life.
The Calm Story

I’ve always loved dreaming up new ideas, products and companies including the successful creation of Moshi Monsters.
There are many joys of entrepreneurial life but it can also be a chaotic, restless and intense existence. As an entrepreneur, you’re ‘always on’ fretting about missed opportunities and stressing about the future.
By the summer of 2014 I had reached breaking point. I was forever tired and suffered from headaches and the joy of work had faded to a dull ache. I took a much needed break. I went on long runs, played tennis and read a lot of books on a subject that kept hearing about: mindfulness.
Before this trip, I’d been intrigued by meditation but had always been too busy to give it a try. I discovered that guided meditations helped enormously and the more I practiced the more I managed to tame my mind.
I began to discover the many benefits that flow from having a strong, focused, calm mind. I felt like I’d stumbled across a secret power.
I returned to work in London rejuvenated. I was fired up and ready to take on anything.
Calming the mind is not about switching off and retreating from the bustle of life. It’s a superpower that rewires our brains, changes the way we see the world and helps to unlock our true potential.

As a teenager, I became interested in the mind and in particular, how to improve it. I explored different ways to develop my memory, generate ideas and focus my attention. Some approaches were more successful than others. Then I discovered one technique that stood head and shoulders above the rest: mindfulness meditation.
Soon with daily practice, I began to feel calmer, more focused and happier.
An idea then occurred to me: I could create a website to help people meditate. I built a simple prototype but ran out of cash and it never saw the light of day.
Then, during whirlwind years of university and my first start-up: The Million Dollar Homepage - I was no longer taking time to calm my mind - just when I needed it most.
I realized how important mindfulness is - not just for me but for everyone. The world is getting faster and busier. Many of us are overworked and stressed out.
I began meditating regularly once more.
After getting back on track and launching a string of ventures, it was time to return to the idea of bringing meditation to the world by leveraging the power of the internet. I got together with my close friend Michael Acton Smith and we launched Calm in 2012.

In 1989 I was introduced to meditation, and from that point onward, I was hooked.
For the next twenty-five years I continued exploring meditative practices and traditions such as Mindfulness, Vipassana, Shambhala, Zen, Insight meditation, Mahayana and Tibetan Buddhist teachings.
While I’d never claim that meditation fixes everything, I can say it’s transformed my life. Over time meditation helped me resolve an eating disorder, alleviate depression and reduce anxiety. It helped me cope through a period of chronic pain. And though I still experience challenges, meditation has taught me to move through life’s discomforts more quickly and with greater ease. It’s inspired me to live more gently, compassionately, and patiently.
As Head of Content here at Calm, my hope is to support others on their path. To remind people that the way we view a situation can completely alter how we feel about it. That our thoughts aren’t always accurate, and that no matter how difficult or scary life feels, there’s a beginning and an ending to all challenge.
In addition to writing and recording Calm’s content, I’m a producer, speaker and author. My children’s book Happiness Doesn’t Come from Headstands will be re-printed by Wisdom Publications in 2017, along with The Secret to Clara’s Calm.
